Kippy Smith, Founder of Status Grow Learning
My belief that people can do the seemingly impossible under the right conditions has long fueled my work as an education leader, designer and entrepreneur. From twenty years of working with district, school & organizational leaders to transform practice in service of students, I learned that how the team approaches the work is a bigger success factor than what the specific practices are it seeks to adopt. Success depends on culture. I founded Status Grow Learning based on my belief that a professional culture of creativity and learning- an innovation culture- is a key driver of equitable student outcomes.
I’ve capably held roles along the full continuum of professional learning, from teacher, to designer & facilitator of professional learning programs, to leadership coach, to business & organizational leader. I connect the dots between vision, goals, strategy and day- to- day implementation. I design experiences, processes & systems to open up potential, to learn, to energize, to innovate, to transform, to do quality work, to build team, and to cultivate a creative culture.
Before founding Status Grow Learning, I led an initiative to redesign EL Education’s core professional development service as Director of School Services, coached dozens of school and district leaders across New England and New York to transform practice through professional learning, and facilitated leadership fellowships anchored in human-centered design for Stanford’s d.School and IDEO. As Northeast Regional Director for EL Education, I led my own team through rapid, complex organizational change by creating a system of professional support to build collective vision, optimism, confidence in our team’s ability to achieve our audacious goals, and shared accountability for results. The feedback I got that I’m most proud of: “Kippy makes me feel like I can do it.”
I’ve taught in Maine, Massachusetts and South Korea, and hold degrees from Harvard and Vanderbilt Universities. From my experience in classrooms across the globe, I learned that all kids can be and want to be successful, kind, and impactful on the world around them.
“Having the opportunity to work with Kippy Smith from Status Grow Learning pushes others to think outside of the box, and provides leaders with opportunities to experience innovative learning themselves, while guiding and facilitating them to plan for designing learning in their own settings.”
